Sorry to hear on the news the other night that the cherry trees may be diseased beyond reclamation. Merville in the cherry blossom season was always so cheery and slightly otherworldly.
Aw, that is a bit of a shame. The blossom does look nice, but its a pain when they get stuck to the car… And makes the roads really slippy.
Apparantly Merville was only meant to have 100 trees, but they accidentally planted all 400, the other 300 were supposed to be planted in Abbotts Cross, Whitehead, and somewhere else…
There’s a tree down the end of my block, and it usually has some fruit on it… Never tried them, I would imagine they would be a little bitter…
Tree surgeons out today cutting down the badly infected/dead trees… This seems to be a pretty regular (yearly) occurrence now…
